Infant & Pre-School classes

Our Infant and Pre-School program is offered over 7 levels for children under 5 years.

Lessons are available all days of the week, with times varying between 8.30am and 12noon.

The first four levels of the program are age-based, parent and baby classes.  From as young as 6 months, infants are taught survival skills, essential for water safety.  With a maximum class size of six, swimming survival skills are slowly introduced to ensure your child enjoys the water and gains confidence, preparing them for the learn-to-swim levels.

Ducks Levels 1 to 4 - Babies and Toddlers - Six students per class (20 min)

  • Duck 1 - ages 6 to 12 months
  • Duck 2 - ages 12 to 18 months
  • Duck 3 - ages 18 to 24 months
  • Duck 4 - ages 24 to 36 months

Levels 1 to 4 build water confidence and teach floating and basic swimming through group activities and water play. Parents must provide in-water supervision.

Pre-Schooler Levels - Four students per class (30 min)

The pre-school curriculum is a specialised program for children aged between 3 to 5 years, who participate in classes where the parent provides out-of-water supervision. The levels are designed to progress students based on their ability rather than age. The program is divided into three stages, which progress students from beginners working on water familiarisation, to advanced teaching of safety, basic freestyle and side breathing.

PRE 1 (Skills 1-11)

Introductory level based on water familiarisation and building confidence. Typically for nervous or anxious beginners, who have not previously participated in lessons. Skills are attained with the teacher's support. Students will learn breath control, submersion, flotation and exploration of body position in the water.

PRE 2 (Skills 12-21)

Intermediate level for students who are confident submerging and going under water. Students will build on skills with minimal assistance and support from teachers. Students in this level will learn how to float independently, roll to take a breath and will be introduced to freestyle arms with underwater reach and pull. The survival aspect presents swimming in life jackets and reach rescues.

PRE 3 (Skills 22-34)

Advanced level building on strokes, introducing basic freestyle breathing, the breaststroke kick and dolphin kick. The survival aspect practices swimming in life jackets and throw rescues.
